The 5 Smooth Stones in Your Life

The story of David and Goliath is not unfamiliar to many. Most see it as a straightforward call to ‘face their giants’— the five stones that David possessed to conquer his giant, Goliath, translated into stones that have the potential to change our lives.

When the stones were left on the ground, they were grey and lifeless. Placed in the hands of David, however, these stones became mighty weapons for him to defeat Israel’s enemy. At first sight, the battle’s outcome looked to be cast in stone. In a spectator’s eyes, there was no way the young David could overcome a huge giant more than twice his size. The odds were too great. Nonetheless, when we face a similar situation like David’s, the Bible offers the same five stones for us to overcome the giants in our lives:

1. The stone of the past — Remembering God for His provision over our lives.
2. The stone of prayer — Making prayer a way of life.
3. The stone of priority — Putting God first in our lives.
4. The stone of passion — Believing fervently in God.
5. The stone of persistence — Constantly seeking God for a breakthrough.

Here's the question: WHY DID DAVID CHOOSE SMOOTH STONES?

Because sharp stones never fly straight! Have you ever thrown a sharp
rock with jags and edges that catch the wind? They always sail out of bounds
on their own.

God is looking for smooth stones that fly straight and true.

The stones were found at the river side (II Samuel 17:40), and it is smooth because it has been splashed by the stream of river over the years. We need to stay in the flow of the river. We need, more than anything else, to simply be men and women of God who know the Lord intimately and understand the currents of the river (Spirit).

If you want your stone to be an effective gaint killer, you got to smoothen your rough edges by constantly being washed by the Living Water. The river over time has a way of wearing you down, chipping off the proud shards of the flesh and conforming us into a better image - the image of Christ (Romans 8:29).

Start smoothen your stones and be a effective problem solver, giant killer today!
